Making sense of archives: film and lecture

How do we “find” moving images? After databases, the Internet, archivists and collectors lead us to old films, newsreels and never-before-seen images, artists must ultimately find them again in the editing process. How can repurposed images move beyond mere illustration? How do they deepen the stories we are telling and add cinematic and documentary layers to our films?
