South Carolina photography contest call for entries

The deadline for South Carolina News Photographers Association (SCNPA) annual contest is February 23. Think Tank has generously donated prizes for winners and items for giveaways during the event. Students are encouraged to enter!

Judging will take place at SCNPA’s annual gathering on Sunday, March 1 in Columbia at The State newspaper at 1401 Shop Road. Judging will start around 9 a.m. with multimedia and work their way through the contest categories. Portfolios will be judged last.

Judges will be Sara Corce (former staffer at the Augusta Chronicle), Melissa Melvin-Rodriguez (NC Freelancer) and Grant Blankenship (Former staffer at the Macon Telegraph and currently Multimedia Journalist for Georgia Public Broadcasting.)

Enter the contest, then attend to learn what judges say about your images. This is a great day to meet professionals from across the state and see inspiring photos. Any student who wants to be a photographer should DEFINITELY attend.

The seminar is free. It will consist of a few dozen photographers sitting in a dark room watching the judges critique their images. There are lots of breaks so you can meet the people in the room and talk about what you just saw. Lunch will be provided for attendees, and there are door prizes along the way. At the end of the day prizes are awarded to the winners, and then everyone goes out to eat and celebrate. It’s a friendly group of people who are passionate about telling stories with photos.
