Student Photo Contests

All these contests are looking for the best photos, photo stories and multimedia projects created in 2013. Good captions are crucial to a winning entry.

South Carolina News Photographers Association
Crowns the best photographer in the state. Prizes include Nikon cameras and Think Tank photo bags.
Must be SCNPA member (student membership $15) Download Members Application.

Winners will be announced March 22.
Deadline Feb. 15. 

Southern Short Course Photos of the Year
Submit the online registration form with $35 student fee (discount if you register for the workshop.)
Winners will be announced February 23 at the Southern Short Course event in Charlotte.
Deadline Feb. 9. 

White House News Photographers Association “Eyes of History” 2014 Contest
Contest open to students across the country.
Submit online registration with $25 student fee (to enter two categories.) Contest judging is February 8.
Winners receive Invitation to ‘Eyes of History’ Awards Gala in Washington, DC, and other publicity.
Deadline January 26. 

NPPA Best of Photojournalism Video Contest
National contest free and open amateurs and professionals.
See rules and registration info. No fees.
Due January 24.

NPPA Best of Photojournalism Still, Editing and Multimedia Contest
See rules and registration info. No fees.
Due January 31.  

Alexia Foundation Student Photojournalism Grant
Provide educational opportunities and cash grants to help students produce bodies of work that share the Foundation’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding. Winner receives a semester in London, cash and photo gear. There is a special award for a winning proposal with a multimedia component.
Proposal and portfolio required. Free to enter.
Due January 27.
