“Kanuga Conferences in Hendersonville, N.C., is seeking a talented and responsible photojournalist for a paid summer internship. This is an opportunity to build your portfolio in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The job is full-time from June through August and includes housing, meals and salary.

“We’re looking for a versatile photographer who can shoot landscapes and meetings just as well as sports and candids. Responsibilities will include photographing a variety of conferences, camps and guest periods; using SoundSlides to produce a weekly slideshow for summer guest periods; and assisting the communications department with other assignments as needed. Must have demonstrated skill with digital SLR cameras and be proficient in Photoshop.

Sam Cranston documents NASCAR from behind the scenes in his job as Photo Editor for www.scenedaily.com , and for NASCAR Illustrated.

Cranston’s images of the auto industry are captivating. For years, he led the photo staff at Daytona Beach News-Journal, where the world revolves around the Daytona 500.

Cranston will share his insights about various aspects of the photo industry as a photographer and manager for newspapers and magazines, as well as working independently. He is well known for being a strong mentor to young photographers.

Photojournalism student Alexia Tsairis died tragically in the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Her family created The Alexia Foundation to honor her, and it is now one of the most prestigious awards in the industry.

Learning how to light can help boost your photography to the next level. Come learn professional lighting techniques at NPPA’s Lighting Workshop on Friday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

David Weintraub, VisCom instructor and professional photographer, will show you how to use light to make your pictures look great. We will learn a variety of techniques, from using natural light with reflectors to studio lighting with electronic strobes.

Our school has several different lighting kits that VisCom students can borrow from the Coliseum issue room. Come learn how to use this professional quality equipment at the NPPA lighting seminar.
